Two players making their major league debuts Wednesday are of some interest to fantasy players in AL only formats (one possibly in deep mixed leagues for just stolen bases).
Quintin Berry replaces the injured Austin Jackson in center field for the Tigers. Sadly Jackson off to such a good start this year looks to be headed to a DL stint with an abdominal muscle injury. Berry has stolen over 50 bases in two of his minor league seasons. Hitting just .270 for Triple-A Toledo, Berry was already 19-22 in stolen base attempts this year.
Kole Calhoun appeared as a defensive replacement for the Angels on Tuesday night but Wednesday gets his first major league start in right field. Calhoun who was an eighth round pick in the 2010 draft got the organization’s attention quickly as he had a 20 HR and 20 SB in his first professional season at A Cedar Rapids. Calhoun who had an outstanding spring training for a team already overloaded with outfielders was hitting 296/365/491 at AAA Salt Lake with five home runs and six stolen bases this year after skipping AA. While his stay in Anaheim is likely a short one with Torii Hunter expected to rejoin the club next Monday, Calhoun may be of interest in deeper AL only formats where he could be kept cheaply for next year.
