Each week, your friends at Mastersball will post the results of the weekly LABR FAAB run, featuring the winning bid as well a the runner-up bids. There are three LABR leagues, a 12-team AL only, 13-team NL only and 15-team Mixed League. You can see the complete standings for each league by clicking on the appropriate heading, located just under each player photo. Included with each league report will be commentary from a Mastersball staff member participating in that league. We invite you to ask questions and post comments at the bottom of the report. All contingency bids for awarded players are included. Sometimes, this bid is tied to a player that the owner received, so at times the bid amount is larger than the winning bid. We are including it to provide as much information and context as possible with each report.

Perry Van Hook's Commentary Well this week most people decided to go only a buck or two for replacements except for three players called up last week. Brandon Moss (currently only available at OF but just one game short of 1B position eligibility) got an $11 bid from Mastersball. Well in defense of my apparent gross overbid – the underbids from KFFL and Full Moon were both $2 – I thought the Marlon Byrd, Kosuke Fukudome, and Kila Ka'aihue owners would be more interested. For me it was a chance to get Seattle’s Alex Liddi who is running out of at bats and possibly his roster spot for the Mariners reserved and hope for Moss’ bat to get him to stay in the Athletics lineup at their revolving first base slot. Moss did have 15 home runs at Triple-A Sacramento this year before his callup and frankly was one of the toughest spring training cuts for Oakland after a terrific spring in which he hit .526. But there was a huge logjam in the Oakland outfield especially when they decided that Yoenis Cespedes would start the year with the big club. Fortunately for Moss he got time to work at first base in Sacramento enabling Billy Beane to give him a shot at the position while designating Ka’aihue for assignment. Steve Gardner (USA Today) was the DLed Fukudome owner who chose a $6 bid on Darin Mastroianni of the Twins to fill that slot. Clint Robinson of the Royals was a $3 bid for Jason Collette (BP) as he replaced Don Kelly. I am guessing Collette has a player ready to return from the DL as Robinson doesn’t figure to get many at bats and be sent down fairly soon.

Lawr Michaels' Commentary Ho hum is the way to describe this week on the NL LABR FAAB front.Probably the most notable issue was last week I dumped Jeff Suppan and his mediocre numbers, activating Nathan Eovaldi from my reserve list to fill the slot. This week Rick Wolf and Glenn Colton picked up Jason Marquis--ostensibly the "new" Jeff Suppan--for a buck hoping for the same miracle I had for Suppan. Good luck with that Full Mooners! The Full Mooners also nabbed Justin Maxwell for a couple of bucks Mitchell Boggs was the high ticket item for the week at $3. Like I said: "ho-hum" What is interesting is four teams sitting on chunks of FAAB money, as follows: Yahoo - Brandon Brandon $109 Sandlot Shrink Bob Radomski $94 mastersball - lawr michaels $92 ESPN - Karabell $88 I don't know about Brandon, Bob, or Eric, but I am sitting on my $92 as rumors of Kevin Youkilis being swapped, hopefully to the NL, and hopefully to me!

Todd Zola's Commentary Fred Zinkie usually has the Midas touch which bodes well for anyone hoping Alex Presley has a better go of it his ssecond time around this season. In the spring, I thought Michael Brantley and Presley would both be nice late round additions to give a little of this and a little of that. So far I'm half right. My only bid this week was to replace the disabled Alex Avila, who joins Troy Tulowitzki and Wilson Ramos as my walking wounded. While I pondered the possibility of Hank Conger, I settled for the safer Gerald Laird who at least has the luxury of replacing my guy. From the "if he can breathe he can close for the Cubs department", TJS recovery Manuel Corpas is back in the bigs. Good luck with that DVR. |
