Each week, your friends at Mastersball will post the results of the weekly LABR FAAB run, featuring the winning bid as well a the runner-up bids. There are three LABR leagues, a 12-team AL only, 13-team NL only and 15-team Mixed League. You can see the complete standings for each league by clicking on the appropriate heading, located just under each player photo.

Included with each league report will be commentary from a Mastersball staff member participating in that league. We invite you to ask questions and post comments at the bottom of the report.

All contingency bids for awarded players are included. Sometimes, this bid is tied to a player that the owner received, so at times the bid amount is larger than the winning bid. We are including it to provide as much information and context as possible with each report.

Perry Van Hook's Commentary

Well as I suspected the new players in the American League this week went for more FAAB than I had …. I just wish people had spent a little more so I might have a chance for a player next week.

There were two teams “All In” for Zack Greinke at $73 – but Steve Gardner (USA Today) was lower in the standings that Larry Schechter (Sandlot Shrink) so he gets the new Angel hurler. Anibal Sanchez went to Brad Evans (Yahoo) for $41, while Nick Minnix (KFFL) acquired Omar Infante for $36. Schechter bid $32 to buy Ryan Roberts and be in the top FAAB spot going forward at $41, one dollar ahead of Jason Collette.

I didn’t need to buy any of the other chaff on the free agent lists as I moved Jayson Nix to MI (ten games at shortstop could be important in your league too) and activated Mike Carp to the CI spot where I had Nix, sending Danny Worth to nowheresville. Sadly I could have made the Nix/Carp move last Monday and saved a dollar and gotten Carp’s stats but it wasn’t really clear when he would be activated off the DL and Infante had not yet pushed Worth to the minors. But at least my pitchers were on target, moving me out of the pack in the 60s to a clearer 4th position with 73 points as of today.

Lawr Michaels' Commentary

Call this week the Starling Marte sweepstakes.

I actually bid $40, as much as I could, but that paled compared to the $60 the new Pirates outfielder copped from defending champ and USA Today'er Steve Gardner.

However, going into the final months, 17 points down from fellow Steve (Moyer of BIS), in fourth place with 84 points, Steve, as in Gardner, had to make a move.

In fact we all did. It is just my bid and money fell short, as I blew my wad on Ryan Wheeler and Ben Francisco last week.

Other acquisitions of note as the trading deadline rears whatever kind of head it possesses?

XM/Sirius honcho Ray Flowers dropped $13 on Jean Segura to replace singles hitting Placido Polanco, while Brandon Funston went $17 on Steve Pearce, hoping the former Pirate slugging prospect could harness some of that clout on behalf of his team in lieu of the injured Logan Morrison.

The one other move of interest had the Full Moon team of Rick Wolf and Glenn Colton swapping out Kevin Correia--demoted to the pen with the Pirates gain of Wandy Rodriguez--for Armando Galarraga.

Correia did ask for a trade (from Pittsburgh, not from Rick and Glenn) and the I do have to question moving a guy who has won his last five starts to the pen.

Somehow I have to think the former Giants #1 pick will get his innings somewhere.

Todd Zola's Commentary

OK, so what have we learned? Steve Gardner from USA Today likes Matt Harvey more than he likes Kris Medlen. This is noteworthy since Steve is in a 5-way battle for first place and is looking for a boost in wins and K's. In a vacuum, Steve may not actually feel Harvey is the superior pitcher, he may be betting on the come and hoping for the upside Harvey offers. In industry leagues, it is win or go home so perhaps Steve is willing to incur the risk of a rookie in hopes of a greater reward.

This just in - there are no speculative closer bids! Oh the humanity!

On a personal note, I am in the midst of a conundrum as I wholly admit there is no way I can win, or even get into a "money" spot. I have had some trade solicitations but have difficulty dealing with teams fighting for the title so I can move up a handful of spots. So I am enlisting the services of my fellow industry brethren and we are discussing this issue for the upcoming "Lord Zola's Round Table."
